Nacogdoches is deeper in the Piney Woods than Longview, and the yards show it. The town is hillier, with streets that roll down toward La Nana and Banita creeks, and plenty of lots have a real grade to them. Tall pines and hardwoods shade the older neighborhoods around downtown and the Stephen F. Austin campus, and the soil runs acidic. This is the town of the Azalea Trail and the big azalea garden at SFA, and azaleas, dogwoods and camellias do well here for good reason. St. Augustine carries the lawns in the shade, and Bermuda only holds on the open, sunny lots.
We will be straight about the distance. Nacogdoches is well over an hour from Longview, so the work we usually make the trip for is the bigger kind: patios and walkways, retaining walls on those slopes, drainage, sod and full landscape installs. Christmas lights too, which start at $1,800 for installs more than an hour from Longview. Weekly mowing this far out is not our usual work, but if you have something smaller in mind, call anyway. We will tell you honestly what we can take on.
What Nacogdoches yards deal with
Real slopes
Nacogdoches is hillier than most of our service area. Sloped yards shed water fast and wash out beds, which is where walls, terraces and drainage earn their keep.
Acidic soil, azalea country
Pine needles and rain keep the soil on the acidic side. Azaleas, camellias and dogwoods love it, while lawns often need a soil test and lime more than extra fertilizer.
Heavy shade on older streets
Tall pines and hardwoods shade much of the older town near downtown and campus. St. Augustine is the grass that holds up there, and the deepest shade is better as a bed than a lawn.
Azaleas set the pruning calendar
Azaleas set next year's flower buds soon after they bloom in spring. Any shaping has to happen right after bloom, or you cut off next year's show.

Hardscaping & Patios
Patios and walkways are one of the main reasons we make the drive to Nacogdoches.
$3,100 to $9,100 most projectsRetaining Walls
Plenty of Nacogdoches yards slope hard toward the street or down toward a creek, and a retaining wall turns that slope into flat, usable ground and stops beds from washing out.
$3,000 to $19,000 most wallsDrainage & Grading
On a sloped Nacogdoches lot, water picks up speed coming downhill and dumps against whatever sits at the bottom, often a slab or a back patio.
$2,000 to $3,750 most projectsLandscaping
A full landscape install is exactly the kind of project we make the drive to Nacogdoches for.
$900 to $3,600 most projectsSod Installation
Shade decides the grass in Nacogdoches: under pines and oaks, St. Augustine is the only common lawn grass that holds on, and the deepest shade is better turned into a bed.
$1,500 to $4,700 most projectsChristmas Lights
Christmas lights are one of the main jobs we travel down to Nacogdoches for, and installs more than an hour from Longview start at $1,800.
From $900 most homesLawn Maintenance
Weekly mowing is the one service we rarely run this far from Longview, and we would rather say so up front.
From $65 per visitLeaf Removal
Nacogdoches yards under tall pines and oaks get needles and leaves from October into February, and a wet leaf mat over shaded St. Augustine through winter is how lawns come up dead in spring.
By the hour hours estimated up frontFertilization
Pine needle duff and acidic rain push Nacogdoches soil low on pH, and fertilizer cannot do its job until that is corrected, so a soil test comes first and lime follows if the numbers call for it.
From about $190 per visitHedge Trimming
In azalea country, the most common hedge mistake is shearing at the wrong time.
$150 to $800 most jobsTree & Shrub Care
Older Nacogdoches yards often have dogwoods, azaleas, camellias and crepe myrtles growing under a tall pine canopy.
Free quoteTree Planting
Under the Nacogdoches pine canopy, a new tree has to fit the light and space it actually has: redbuds and dogwoods work as understory trees at the edge of the pines, while live oaks and Shumard oaks need open ground and room to spread.
Free quoteFlower Bed Installation
Flower beds in Nacogdoches usually fight shade, slope or both.
$900 to $3,600 most planting projectsMulch Installation
Under Nacogdoches pines, beds collect a layer of needles every year, and pine straw is a fine mulch on its own, especially on a slope where it knits together.
$600 to $2,400 most bedsIrrigation & Sprinkler Systems
Nacogdoches lots are hilly, and water on a slope runs off before it soaks in.
