What did Yard Dog build in Kilgore, TX?

A Kilgore customer we built a flagstone walkway for in September reached back out for an extension: a round patio seating area off the walkway. Our crew framed it in chopped stone, built up a crushed limestone base and set the flagstone in mortar.

Jacob walks through the new seating area in the video. A few finishing touches were still left when we filmed it. The photos show the crew mixing mortar, fitting flagstone and filling the joints.

Hey, I'm Jacob with Yard Dog Landscapes. We're back here in Kilgore, Texas, and we're doing another patio project. Let me show y'all. So, this customer reached back out to us for an extension to their walkway, which is this patio seating area. As you know, with all our flagstone patios or projects, we began with 4x4 chopped stone borders, then we put in the sub-base, or crushed limestone, compacted for a solid base for the mortar, and then finally the flagstone. And just like that, we're able to come back and build on a project we completed last month. We should have a few finishing touches left, but we're one step closer to giving this customer another great space to enjoy in their backyard.

How we built it

  1. Chopped stone border

Like all our flagstone patios, this one starts with a border of 4x4 chopped stone set around the shape of the seating area.

  2. Crushed limestone base

Crushed limestone goes in as the sub-base and is compacted into a solid base for the mortar.

  3. Flagstone in mortar

Flagstone is fit piece by piece and set in mortar, and the joints are filled by hand.

  4. Tied into the walkway

The seating area connects to the flagstone walkway and path lights we finished on the same property the month before.
