What did Yard Dog build in Hallsville, TX?

With summer winding down, this Hallsville family wanted somewhere to sit around a fire at night. Our crew built a rounded flagstone patio off the end of their pool deck, edged in chopped stone.

Jordan walks through the finished patio in the first video. The second shows the build, from cutting out the shape with a track loader to setting the borders and spreading the base.

Hey y'all, this is Jordan from Yard Dog. We're out here in Hallsville, Texas, today finishing up this flagstone patio. Now that summer's coming to an end, this customer needed a place where they could enjoy their nightly outdoor campfires. Per usual with our flagstone patios, we start off with our chopped-stone borders, build up with our limestone base and finish off with the customer's choice of whatever flagstone. How we built it

How the crew built it0:49
  1. Cut out the shape

A track loader dug out the patio area and the old turf and dirt went out in the dump trailer.

  2. Chopped stone borders

Every border stone is set by hand to a string line and checked with a level, so the edge stays true.

  3. Limestone base

Crushed limestone goes in inside the border and gets raked out into a solid, even base.

  4. Flagstone on top

The customer picked the flagstone. The crew fit each piece and filled the joints.

On our patios, chopped stone borders go in first, then a crushed limestone base built up inside them, and the flagstone goes on top. The border holds the base in place and gives the patio a clean edge.

Can you build a flagstone patio next to a pool?

Yes. This one runs off the end of an existing pool deck in Hallsville. We shape the patio around what's already there.
